Steeped in the history and evolution of dance in Steamboat Springs, Kent is the former President and Artistic Director of Steamboat Dance Theatre and a member of the Ute Indian Tribe. Join Kent for an afternoon exploring the rich history of Native American dance and how it has informed modern dance. Learn about the Ute Indian history of this area through storytelling, making dance sticks and gourd sticks and trying out traditional steps of thanks giving. Kent will guide participants through simple warm-up exercises and dance steps of Gourd Dancing, Sneak Up, and Round Dance. All abilities are welcome and no dance experience is necessary. Materials for dance and gourd sticks supplied.
