Drawing is more than a skill—it’s a way of seeing. In this welcoming workshop, artist and designer Eric Anderson will guide participants through the fundamentals of drawing, including sketching, perspective, positive and negative space, tone, value, and composition.
Through demonstrations, guided exercises, and individual projects, participants will build confidence while developing their own creative voice. Working from objects, landscapes, and live models, students will receive personalized instruction and explore how drawing can be combined with other media to create layered, expressive artwork.
Whether you’re picking up a pencil for the first time or returning to a longtime interest, this class offers a supportive environment to strengthen observation skills, deepen creativity, and develop a sustainable drawing practice.
About the Instructor: Eric Anderson is an artist, designer, and educator whose work bridges drawing, architecture, and visual storytelling. He has lectured at the University of Colorado Denver and co-founded the Aspen Summer Program. Eric holds degrees from SUNY Alfred, The Ohio State University (cum laude), and Columbia University, with additional studies at ETH Zürich and the University of Oxford. He is also teaching a youth drawing camp through Steamboat Creates this summer, sharing the joy of drawing with artists of all ages.
Young at Heart Program: Young at Heart is a series of creative classes for adults ages 16+ designed to build community while introducing skills across a variety of artistic mediums. Each class series culminates in a collaborative community art project that celebrates creativity, connection, and lifelong learning.
