This six-week hand-building ceramics class is designed for beginner to intermediate students looking to expand their skills and creativity. The course begins with a brief refresher on studio basics and equipment, then progresses into a range of techniques for creating both functional and decorative pieces. Students will learn how to choose the best approach for their projects, including cutting and shaping clay, working with molds, building with coils, and constructing and altering slab forms—often combining methods to achieve unique results. The class also covers pattern-making, working to specific measurements, and decorative techniques such as carving, appliqué, sculptural additions, and assembling multiple components. Finishing methods, including the use of underglazes and other surface treatments, will be introduced as students complete their work. This is a flexible, creativity-driven class, and students are encouraged to bring their own ideas and goals to explore throughout the session.
