Founded in 1913, Winter Carnival is Steamboat Springs’ signature celebration of all things winter. Hosted by the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club, this beloved community tradition brings people together for a week of fun, festivities, and winter sports.

Since 2015, Steamboat Creates has overseen the Snow Sculptures portion of Winter Carnival, continuing a tradition that dates back to 1929. Snow Sculptures celebrate the intersection of art and athletics, inviting high school students and community members to carve stunning snow sculptures that line Lincoln Avenue. The sculptures are judged for prizes and become a vibrant part of the Winter Carnival experience.

In partnership with the Steamboat Springs School District, Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club, and the City of Steamboat Springs, Steamboat Creates helps to infuse a dynamic creative spirit into this cherished event, bringing a fresh artistic energy to the heart of Winter Carnival.

2026 Snow Sculpture Highlights

Despite challenging snow conditions this year, our teams brought creativity, grit, and true Winter Carnival spirit to the courthouse lawn and beyond. With teamwork and determination, the 2026 Snow Sculptures became a memorable lineup of hand carved work that added joy, humor, and artistry to downtown Steamboat.

Thank you to every participating team. Every sculpture was incredible. And thank you to everyone who came out to view the sculptures along Lincoln Avenue and who helped by voting online and cheering the teams on throughout the weekend.
